Among the renewable energy sources that produce electricity, hydropower is the most common one. It calculated for a 7 % of total U.S. electricity generation. It is among the oldest resource of energy and was used many years ago to revolve a paddle wheel for reason such as grinding grain. The first U.S. hydroelectric power plant opened on the Fox River near Appleton, Wisconsin, on September 30, 1882. Before that, coal was the solitary fuel used to produce electricity.

Fossil fuels are non-renewable source of energy, it means it could run out. Also, when fossil fuels are burnt they produce the gas carbon dioxide (CO2). Carbon dioxide is known as a greenhouse gas since it traps heat from the sun & preventing it from escaping out of the Earth's atmosphere in to space. The amount of greenhouse gasses in the atmosphere is increasing. It leads to rising Earth temperature called global warming.
The switch from one energy source to another has not been seen since the first part of the 20th century. Then, people all around the world relied on horses for transportation and gas lamps for light. Then, came the world-wide use of fossil fuels and the introduction of automobiles and electric bulbs, which revolutionized the way people lived. There are many advantages of wind energy and using it as an alternative source of electricity not only helps home owners save on utility bills, but is also very environmentally friendly. Coupled with solar power systems, wind power systems can even help to totally eliminate the need for families to stay on the grid.
You have probably heard it said by environmental groups that we should switch to solar energy as a power source because it is free, there is an unlimited supply, and it is a cleaner source of electrical power because there are no by-products (compared to fossil fuels like oil and gas which release greenhouse gases into the earth's atmosphere when burned for power.) However, can solar energy be a reliable and practical source of electrical power indeed?
