Saving money on your utility bills isn't the daunting, overwhelming task many people seem to think it is.  You can go green easily, and cheaply, but the savings can be big.

Here are 5 simple steps you can take to cut your energy bills starting now:

1. Replace all the light bulbs in your home with energy efficient CFL bulbs.  These bulbs not only burn less electricity they also last longer so you'll save money in two ways.

2. Replace or repair old, drafty windows and doors.  If you don't have the budget to replace your windows at least caulk around them to close off any leaks.

You can also purchase an inexpensive window insulation kit.

3. Instead of paying to water your grass use the water Mother Nature provides for free.  You can buy rain barrels that can collect the water when it rains.  That water can be used to water your lawn and gardens.

4. Make sure your home has the proper amount of insulation. If you're not sure how much you need just ask an expert at your home improvement store. If you don't have enough, add more.

Insulation is your first line of defense when you are trying to conserve energy.

5. Produce your own electricity by making your own wind turbine.  You can make one for about $200. It will only take a few hours and all the materials you need can be bought at any hardware store.

You can find manuals that will show you how to do it at any bookstore or online.

I hope you follow one, or more, of these ideas on how you can go green.  It's not hard, some simple daily lifestyle changes can make a big difference on how much you spend every month on your utility bills.
