Firstly, to set up a proper wind power unit, you need to spend a huge amount of money. In other words, if you are looking at a unit to power your whole house up, the initial set up can cost you a fortune. For such a windmill, the maintenance cost can also be high with the required amount of greasing and oiling of its parts.
Secondly, windmills are very noisy, which is why people prefer to set them up away from their home. The turbines in the windmills can cause interference for some of the electrical appliances in your home, like the TV, if the windmill is quite near to the building.
Another great disadvantage of windmills is that the generation of the electricity is hugely dependent on the weather. Windmills need winds blowing continuously at at least 20 miles an hour.
